Mysterious Bat Deaths (VT, NY, MA)

I know some of you have hiked over near the bat caves in the Dorset/Manchester Vermont area. Perhaps you've already read or heard about the bat deaths. They are happening in New York and Mass. as well. Here is a link to an article in today's Brattleboro Reformer

I heard about this on public radio yesterday. I have been thinking about heading over to check out those caves on Dorset ( during the time they are "open"), but I think I'll just stay clear til they figure this out. It sounds like the bats have enough to deal with without me sticking my head in their caves. I hope the scientists figure this out. The report on NPR said they believe this could lead to a full scale collapse of ALL bat populations in the Northeast. My understanding is that bats aren't pollenators in this region, but they sure do eat a lot of insects.....
