Noon Peak (Waterville Valley) via Sandwich Mountain Trail

Trail Conditions: Trail clear of blowdowns and well maintained -- but slick and slimy in places after rains last night. In the denser woods down low, the rocks and roots felt like they were algae-coated at times.

Special Equipment Required: Bug spray a good idea -- the black flies seem to be resurgent. They made up in persistence what they lacked in plenty. Definitely needed a lot of water, very muggy today.

Comments: Nice hike, sandwiched into the mid-day between family obligations. The Sandwich Mountain Trail, especially once into the Wilderness area, is lovely. Terrain is steep in places (I stopped a couple times on the way up to mutter, "Wow", and slid a few places eliciting a "whee" on the way back down). Views from the top of Noon Peak, even on a hazy day, are really inspiring -- 180+ degrees from Osceola to the Tripyramids to Sandwich, out across the wild valley to the north and east. Definitely a place to return to on a crisp, clear fall day.
