My observations echo that of Bryan's fine 12/23 post. By yesterday morning it was far too bony for snowshoes, microspikes did the job all day for the other VFTTers I met on the peaks (one had come up from Livermore & Scaur, the other via Pine Bend). I had switched into my crampons mid-way up the steeps above the Scaur-Pine Bend junction only because one of my micro's snagged & popped off. Plenty of ice to watch out for esp. descending back from Middle Peak. Altogether a terrific Christmas Eve-day hike up-and-back via Pine Bend. Happy Holidays!
