Snow conditions: groomed ski trails and ice and crusty snow on the ridge
Trail conditions: We lost the AT in some areas once on the ridge but with
clear skies it was easy to make our way to the Horn.
Gear needed: Snowshoes are an absolute must on the ski trails so as not
to ruin their trails. We had our crampons but with the
warm temps and good purchase on the ridge only needed
snowshoes. Some form of traction needed on the ridge.
Use of Ski Area: Saddleback told us they were hiker friendly. Ask them
which trails they prefer you take up and stay to the side.
Respecting their trails will hopefully give us a long hiker
friendly relationship with them, allowing us use of the ski
trails.
