TRAILS HIKED: This was a loop hike which began and ended at the Smarts Brook trailhead. It involved the Smarts Brook Trail, plus a 1-mile bushwhack to link up with the Algonquin Trail which was then hiked to Sandwich Dome. The return-leg was done by hiking a short (0.6 mile) segment of the Sandwich Mtn Trail + the entire length of the Smarts Brook Trail.
My BLOG contains more details + some snapshots.
TRAIL CONDITIONS:
Smarts Brook Trail: The entire length of this trail was in good condition. It appeared that recent work had been done along the upper portion of the trail in terms of brushing and blowdown removal. There were no issues with water crossings. There were a few muddy spots, but nothing that presented any real problem.
Algonguin Trail: I hiked this trail from a point just a bit south of Black Mountain all the way to Sandwich Dome. This trail also was overall in good shape. It was well brushed out. There were a few blowdowns, but all were very easy to step over or step around.
Sandwich Mtn Trail: I was on this trail for only 0.6 mile. This segment was in great shape.
(Some photos and more narrative about this trek are posted on my BLOG.)
