Conditions: Lambert Ridge Trail in good shape. Could use some minor brushing out, especially near the summit. The new steps and iron rungs were a very nice addition. Water for dogs somewhat limited, though there was some in the col of the Ridge. We also went to check out the spring 0.2 miles below the Ranger Cabin. It is really more a series of mud holes, rather than a spring per se. I wouldn't count on it. Be prepared to treat the water if you decide to use it. Ranger Trail was in better shape than I expected for a supposedly unmaintained trail. There are some blowdowns; but all can be skirted fairly easily. Very mosquito-ey and lots of deer flies along the lower, old-jeep-road part of the trail. Someone has been adding new blue paint markers on the trees along this section of the trail.

Equipment: Nothing special except bug repellent.
