This was an ADK Albany Chapter Outing. Originally the leader was going to hike from Rt 20 N (Pittsfield section) to next road crossing (N of Jiminy Peak area+/-). Reports of heavy blowdown on the Rt 20 N section caused the hike to be changed to Petersburg Pass (Rt 2) to N Petersburg (Rt 346). Coincidentially Schen Chapter of ADK also had hike scheduled for Taconic Crest Trail (TCT) on this day and Schen Chapt group ended up also doing much the same hike+/- as Alb Chapter. Total people on both hike was 12+/-

Temps were from single digits to 20 deg F with 20+/-mph winds. Sunny and blue sky all day :)

The 12"+/- of unconsolidated snow and low use of this trail made snowshoes with attached integral crampons mandatory for today's hike. The bigger the snowshoe shoe the better. 25" shoes worked good.... 30" even better. Stabilicers or stand alone crampons were not needed.

The layered approach for all exposed body surfaces with wind protection for outer layer was the way to go today.

A packed trail now currently exists for this gorgeous section of the TCT....
