Decided to take a relatively simple and easy hike up Sugarloaf with andy and pete - helping these guys snag some maine summits in pursuit of WNEHH.
We parked in the Golf Club lot and ascended via the West Mountain chair lift run up to Bullwinkles - too early for beer so we took a break at the jct above where Timberline comes in from the west and enjoyed a shady spot with beer. Sun had been out and we were burning up! About an hour later we set out up the Timberline trail. We barebooted up the whole way.
At no time did any Ski area employee hassle us in fact we shared many a laugh with staff and skiiers the entire way up and down. We were not equipped with sleds or skis and perhaps that makes a difference and we were always off to the side of any ski trail.
old summit gondola building closed to public oddly enough.
Spent an hour on top in and mostly out of the sun.
We left long before the 2 groups of skiiers apparently got lost out of bounds.
Deep snow! We had thoughts of heading to Spaulding but decided to have another beer at Bullwinkles.
Used snowshoes for the descent.
