December 30-31 Wildcat's and Cannon!!

Trail: Nineteen Mile Brook to Wildcat Ridge Trail down Polecat

Equipment: stabilizers to Wildcat Ridge and then crampons.

Weather: 18 degrees with snow falling
Trail Conditions: snow coverd with ice underlay, careful footing in some areas otherwise uneventful.

Start Time: 9:30 am

The begginning of the winter hiking season was quite a treat, with snow falling the entire day as we made our way up the trail with little wind and chilly temps. It was a welcome change from the barren trees and bare lawns of Ct. As we approached the top all was very quiet, the upper chairlift was closed making for a very quiet hike down the mountain.
Thanks Marcia for such a great day!

Day 2 Cannon Mountain

Trail: Kinsman Ridge Trail /Cannon Tram parking lot.

Equipment: stabilizers
Trail conditions: snow with some icy areas but mostly snow covered, easy travel.

Weather: low 20's with cloudy skies snow covered trails 6+inches of snow on trails.

Start time: 8:30 am
End time: 1:30 pm

Leisurely hike with much conversation, laughter and good company was had on this New Year's Eve day. The summit proved to be a welcome site as it is a relentless climb to the top : ) Stopped in the pines on the way down to enjoy a quick lunch and clearing skies of lavender and blue.
There happened to be enough snow cover to do some glissading which produced much laughter : ) between Marcia and Peter.
We celebrated with a Long trail, cheered in the new year and said our goodbyes until next time. Thanks Peter and Marcia for such a great day : )
Happy New Year!!

HEY!
Glad you had two great days out there!
What a beautiful way to ring in the New Year for you.
Hope to see you out there on the trail soon! :)

A fine day in fine company on Cannon. Looks like we were about the only ones in the clouds all day, as the Presidential views from Rts. 3 and 302 were excellent.

Stabilicers were perfect for the conditions--not too weak and not too aggressive.

Thanks for the TR, kmac!
