South Meadow beyond Marcy Dam, ascending a brook to the Wright slide then using trails to Algonquin, Avalanche Lake and back to S Meadow. May 20, 2009.

Old road to Marcy Dam in fine shape, with a couple blow down. Herd paths toward Wright slide not established, though old reminants appear. We enjoyed climbing the brook with ocasional bypasses to avoid falls. Brook was high, but climbable for the most part. The branch of the brook toward the slide was almost dry. A small cairin marked the tiny outflow from the slide. The slide was fine for climbing but rain set in, so the summit rock was wet as was the trail to Algonquin. Minor mud. Some stretches of packed snow. Easy to hike with care. Trail to Avalanche lake and out were in usual condition, although the lake was high so the ends were muddier than usual.

Windgear very helpful on summits and in the rain. Other hikers were miserable. Waterproof shoes very useful.
