Planning on hiking in the adirondack high peaks area either this weekend or next. Anyone have info on how much snow is on the ground at higher elevations? Enough for snow shoes yet?

I have read several reports about Marcy Dam, Duck Hole, and Rt 73 but have not seen anything about the status of Upper Works and the Lake Colden/Flowed Lands area. Does anyone have any news on these areas?

I can't speak for that exact location but I was in Blue Mountain Lake this past weekend and there was about 3 feet of hard, supportive snow on the ground. In fact we didn't even need snow shoes, even while carrying almost 50 lb packs for a weekend trip.
I would think you would be ok but...
The NYSDEC website says the Lake Arnold Trail, just north of Feldspar lean-to, maybe impassable due to beaver activity. Anyone have an update as to whether this trail is passable or not right now.

I am looking to do a three day/two night backpacking trip in the Berkshires in a couple weeks. Does anyone know of some nice hikes I might be able to check out? Looking for around 4 miles in to a lean-to with day hiking possibilites for the second day. The closer to I-90 the better but I...
Approaching from the Garden I know there are two lean-tos on the way into the Lodge. Are there any additional lean-tos closer to the lodge, around the trail to Big Slide?

I got this sweet gift for fathers day!!! Does anyone else have one yet? If not I can totally vouch for it. It is an awesome unit. The Topo 6 software is also very nice. You can download USGS 1:24000 quad maps as well as arieal and satelite imagery from Delorme's website and transfer these...
It would be a VERY long day to get all three Sewards and Seymour done in the same day. The Sewards are a very rugged range and their setup requires you to climb at least 4 peaks, counting back tracking, when you hike along the ridge. If it were me I would get the three done first then hike...
I am trying to coordinate a meeting place in Saranac Lake to meet up with some hikers coming up from Albany. Does anyone have any good suggestions about a place to leave my car for the day so we can only take one car to the trailhead?

I have been around that way sevral times. Most of the time when it was dryer. The ground is somewhat squishy but it will support your weight with miniml sinking. Just wear a good pair of boots and you will be all set. You don't have to cross the Opelesant from there so even if its flowing...
I am planning on Hiking Gray and Marcy soon and was wondering what everyone thought as to the best approach. I am torn between coming in from Upper Works or a loop trip from ADK Loj to Lake Arnold and back via Van Hovenburg trail. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.
