    Snowshoes

I am interested in picking up a pair shoeshoes. I would not expect to use them that often. I only weigh 150 so I think I can get away with 25 inch as oppose to 30. REI has a sale on the tubbs 2004 adventure series. All my reading suggests that these are best used for recreation. Do you...

    Fisher Cat

I think I saw a fisher on the top of Mt. Hurricane on Tuesday. Black body and tail, bigger than a domestic cat, I would say twenty plus pounds. Is this a common sighting, or can I be confusing the fisher with another animal?

    Jeffers Brook Shelter Question

thanks everyone! Do you think that I will need snowshoes for this trip? Also, where do I fill up for water at the shelter? Lastly, how long do you think it should take to reach the summit from Glencliff? We will be spending two nights there, so I have some time.

A little help please. Dave, am thinking about a late night drive up to jeffers brook shelter next week. I would not pull in to glencliff trailhead until 1:00am. My thought was to crash in the shelter and start the real hike at dawn. Can you help me with a little more clear directions from...

    Freeze dried food - expiration

Does anyone know how long freeze dried food should last? I have a Backpacker's pantry charlotte's raspberry blast with no expiration date. I don't believe they make it any more. Forgive the humor, but I don't want to be blasting anything on the trail.

    Been There Done That!

Desolation Trail I have hiked this trail with full packs in the rain. No fun, but rewarding. I thought the black flies were going to carry me off the mountain.

Need some advice. I love the pemi. My buddy and I have covered the whole area and need a new location for a two night, possibly three night trip (more likely two nights in the woods with a 6:00am start time. In any event, we have also covered carter dome and Mt. Horn (like this area as well)...

    Race Mountain

Logging road Yes, the road will take you to a dirt road where you will see a few houses. There is an unbelievable house on the right as you come out of the woods. You simple follow the road up the hill and down to route 41. You will pass a business on the right. I know there is plenty of...

    Race Mountain

I hiked up Race Brook Trail from Route 41 on Saturday (9:30am). We brought a first time hiker who was at best not in very good shape. We camped at Laurel Ridge Campsite (the old Bear Rock Falls Campsite is closed). The ridgeline walk was a real pleasure. We saw a few people, however, we had...
