trails: mt. shaw, black snout
conditions: dusting of snow on lower section with wet and icy spots. more snow cover as the trail makes steep climb to carriage road and a bit less than a foot (mostly packed except for top couple of inches) or so there after to both summits.
equipment: usual for this time of year. if i had carried snowshoes i would have used them on the carriage roads, but they aren't necessary. used light traction going down the steep section of the shaw trail, but again not necessary.
comments: first time hiking in the ossipees. really nice, quiet, beautiful woods. lots of animal tracks from turkey to fox to moose. looking forward to more hikes in the range.
