For black flies, I use Repel Black Fly formula in a pump bottle. It used to be available at EMS but it's not on their website today. It contains DEET plus another ingredient because DEET does not repel black flies. I use just a little and repeat every hour or so if I'm perspiring. I also bring a headnet just in case.
