    Woman's Hiking Boots

I'll start with the Asolo's and also look at some of the trail running shoes. I am not concerned with winter hiking at the moment, but I may want to have some level of water proofing for her (she has a tendency to fully enjoy the stream crossings :) so that might eliminate the trail runners.

    Woman's Hiking Boots

My daughter has informed me she wants to finish the 48 this summer which means around 20 peaks to go. It also means her Dad has a free pass to go hiking most weekends (yeah!). Her current trail shoes are a bit worse for wear and need to be replaced. I was hoping for some recommendations from...

    Eisenhower & Pierce

I was wondering if I need any traction\snow shoes for Eisenhower or Pierce (probably Eisenhower). I plan on going up Saturday morning and would like to know how much of the snow is left up top and if the monorail is still in tact. If anyone is interested we will probably be heading out around...

Day hike out of Crawford Notch

I appreciate all the advice and comments. I think I will wait to see the weather conditions on Friday and the group's motivation (teen agers can be a bit fickle) and make a decision. Crawford sounds like a fun hike, but Tom may give them a bit more time on the trail. Pierce could be a good...

Day hike out of Crawford Notch

Is there just the one trail up to Crawford and if so any idea of the time that should be allowed for a large group (11)? Not having been up it before, I may want to check it out over the weekend.

Day hike out of Crawford Notch

I agree that Jackson may not be the best choice because of the potential ice. I also considered Eisenhower if the winds were calm. I believe there would only be the short break out before the summit above tree line, but I am not sure what the actual time would be to summit from the scrubs in...

Day hike out of Crawford Notch

I am looking for some advice on which summit to take a group of eight high school kids up next week. They are going to stay at the AMC Highlands "Hotel" Thursday night and we will hit the trail Friday morning. All have some experience, are in good condition, and have the proper equipment. In...

    Avoiding high water this weekend

Whiteface should be okay, no major crossings, but some of the ledges higher up could be a bit slick, Lafayette up Bridal Path across the ridge and back would be a safe bet We're joining the herds up Washington on Saturday (benefit hike or else I would avoid at all costs!)

    Chocorua

Plan B Broke out the road bikes and went for a long ride instead. If I wait another couple of weeks the black flies may be out in force. You know nothing says says spring like black flies! Thanks for the comments, they were helpful.

    Chocorua

Has anyone been up Chocorua in the last week and if so which trails? I am thinking of taking the family out on Sunday and would prefer not to have any surprises it being Mother's Day and all :) Any status on stream crossings, snow pack, etc

    Tuckerman Inferno 4/21/07

I've always wanted to head up to the Inferno and watch the skiers etc. from lunch rock with the kids. I am not sure from this thread if this is a good year to go. Any feedback or ideas as to whether to go and if we do go what to expect? Or should I just a find a trail with minimum stream...
