This is just a heads-up for reserving the date on your calendar, and a few details. I'll post more details mid-Winter.

Saturday, March 29, 2008
5:00PM Social hour
6:00PM Buffet dinner Same great menu as last year!
$26.00 Adult, $15.00 kids 4-12
At the Crowne Plaza in Lake Placid

Please note that the date is Saturday, March 29. We originally set the date a week earlier, following the pattern of the first Saturday after Winter ends. The Spring issue of Peeks listed that date, which is now wrong. Jennifer at the Crowne Plaza pointed out that this was during Easter weekend, so we changed the date after press time.
Please note that the price in the 46er Fall newsletter was incorrect. The correct price is $26.00.
Payment is by check made out to the ADK 46rs and mailed to Peggy by March 15:

Peggy MacKellar
165 Elm St.
Lake Placid, NY 12946

This is for aspiring Winter 46ers, those who have completed it, and any friends and family who want a further glimpse into this world. Anthropologists and paparazzi have traditionally ignored us.

Minor price increase

The price for the dinner has gone up 75 cents to cover charges for the AV system. So the actual price will be $26.00.
On 1/10 I edited the original notice, so it now has the correct price.

Reminder

Just a reminder that Winter is more than 2/3 over, and that payment for the Winter Gathering is due on March 15. Originally the date was posted as March 1, but I was informed that was wrong. It's just been corrected in the top post.
There's plenty of room left. Remember, it's Saturday, March 29 this year.

A bit more about the gathering

It's a gathering, not a meeting. It's about relaxedly getting together with people you've hiked with, or met, or heard about, and trading stories, advice, plans etc.
The only formal parts of the evening are some brief announcements, and a time for this years Winter finishers to stand up and share something about their experience. It could be an account of their last peak, or a summary of their whole quest, or an anecdote, or giving thanks, or an observation about the meaning of it all, or...
Also, it's about eating a good, full meal without having to carry any of it on your back.

You still have a snowball's chance in March

Out of the graciousness of her heart, Peggy has made a way for you to attend even if you didn't get your check in by 3/15. She has until 3/19 to tell the Crowne Plaza a final number of attendees. If you call or e-mail her before the end of Crowne Plaza business hours on Wednesday, 3/19, and COMMIT to the dinner, she'll put you on the list. Once the 46ers give the CP a number, the 46r's have to pay for that many. That means that you'd be committing to pay the $26, even if for some reason you can't make it.
Remember, even if you haven't finished the 46 in winter, this gathering is still for you.
When is the end of CP business hours? I don't know, so be sure to contact Peggy early enough for her to include you in her final number call-in.
