This is a horrible website dedicated to the destruction and over population of the backcountry.

ERL, With the masses of people heading into the backcountry these days, what's your plan on how to educate them on rules, regulations, and protection of fragile ecosystems? Just curious.

ERL seems to be just wanting to start something, this is not the place for that discussion.

I agree with Jay H and Ann.

Ann: thanks for the cool troll definition. "Insubstantial irritation" is an excellent descriptive phrase.

AMC (aka "Troll Town") gets a lot more of this; one of the reasons I like it better here.

How can you stop trolling and make its practitioners apoplectic with frustration? Ignore them and they will go away:

1. Click on the troller's "Profile" button that appears on the bottom of his/her posting, or on the troller's name that appears on the thread list. At the bottom of the screen that appears, click on the option to ignore that user. From that point forward, all posts by that user will not appear on your screen, even on messages that the troller starts. (The ironic beauty: The rest of the messages on that thread will continue to appear.)
2. You might want to protect yourself from electronic retaliation. If so, go immediately to your user profile on VFTT and make your email address invisible to all but the moderator(s). Yes, this will make it less convenient for others that you want to hear from. But you can still receive private messages here. And you can set an "ignore" for the author of any messages that you don't want to hear from again.
3. Watch for reincarnations from the troller and repeat as necessary until he/she withers from lack of attention and leaves.

The cost in time to follow this advice? A few seconds. The smile on your face as you see how well the "ignore" option works here? Priceless.
