trails: moose tracks trail, snowmobile trails, bushwhack
conditions: the trailhead for moose tracks is on the access road to the old ski area, now mountain bike park, in northfield just north of the entrance. parking available roadside. the obvious route up to the summit ridge would be to head up through the mountain bike park to the west peak, but it is posted as were other likely routes from the north. we followed the moose tracks trail and various snowmobile trails around the west side of the mountain and onto its southwestern slopes and headed up from there. the trails had wet and occasionally rotten snow. we bushwhacked through open woods too the summit ridge with wet snow and occasional bare patches. from there we followed the ridge to the highpoint.
equipment: snowshoes.
comments: nice afternoon hike. great open woods and good, but limited views from the summit and other points on the mountain. interesting memorial plaque on the summit ledge. lots of signs of old trails around the summit. a very interesting peak. thanks to jeremy for a good hike.
