wow, how weird. I was hiking over there the day before. I went up to cranberry pond on friday, and headed a little further on the trail up to horn's pond before i turned back. It sounds like these guys started at the other trail head in Stratton. There was about 6-10 inches of snow in the woods, but it was covering lots of slick rocks and there was tons of water underneath the snow. My snowshoes weighed about 30 pounds each when i finished my hike. The trail that they went on can be steep in sections, the article didn't mention them having any snowshoes. I hope the guy is ok. I took a few pics of my journey, if anyone wants to see them.
