Date of Hike: 1 February 2014

Trail Conditions: the road walk was groomed out nicely by snowmobile traffic. The Signal Ridge Trail was hard pack snow with a 1-2 inch layer of loose powder until between the open part of Signal Ridge and the summit where there were 4-5 inches blown powder on top of hard pack. The crossing was a careful rock hop but easy.

Special Equipment Required: In our group, three wore microspikes and one wore snowshoes. I saw an even mix of both throughout the day. Postholing was not a problem. You could have worn either for the entire day although I did not use traction on the roadwalk.

Comments: A perfect winter day for Carrigain with clear, long views from the summit tower and Signal Ridge. Temps were near 30 F, the sun was out most of the day, and there was little if any wind most of the trip. Passed a group out for the night, a solo hiker and a pair out on the trail.
