Eagle Cliff (Sandwich) via Eagle Cliff Trail
Date of Hike: Tuesday, March 17, 2009
Trail Conditions: Spring snow, blue ice, mud, bare ledge
Special Equipment Required: Traction
Comments:
Just barely enough room to park on the side of the road.
First half of the Eagle Cliff Trail (to the bottom of the cliffs) was barebootable spring snow - no postholing if you stay on the trail.
I ascended via the cliffs and descended via the bypass, using Microspikes for both. Definitely a stretch using the spikes to get up the cliffs, crampons probably a better idea. Microspikes a good idea for the bypass.
Above the junction, still some blue ice, but you can work your way around it. Microspikes needed there as well.
No significant blowdowns. First creek crossing still bridged.
