Date of Hike: Sunday 12 July 2009
Trail Conditions: Beautiful partly sunny day; no rain! Started at around 9:15am after spotting car at Skookumchuck trail head. Expected slippery conditions on Falling waters trail going up. Franconia Ridge was generally dry and clear with a few small puddles near lower krumholz areas. Garfield ridge had pretty much the same conditions. Skookumchuck was blessed with copious and slippery mud; not unexpected, but it did go on and on for 4 miles...
Special Equipment Required: None. Poles helpful on mud.
Comments: Great hike! Asides: The NorthEast and White Mtns have had alot of rain this Spring/Summer, so mud wasn't unexpected on trails. Specifically, mud on Skookumchuck trail was alot easier on one's ankles/knees than rock normally found on upper reachs of the Bridle path, including Agony Ridge. Finished at around 6pm, with frequent photo and re-fueling breaks; this wasn't a barnburner hike - but was very enjoyable!
