Mt. Pierce & Eisenhower via Crawford Path
Friday, January 17th, 2014
Trail Conditions: 1"-3" of fresh snow over hard pack and ice (just a couple of minor bulges) with some exposed rock. Wind blown drifting in the saddle between Pierce & Eisenhower. No new blow downs - all could be walked over or around. No water crossing issues.
I was first on trail this AM and used snowshoes to consolidate the trail up and back (plus I was just too lazy to switch over.) Light traction would have been more than sufficient and that's what most hikers on trail today were wearing.
Only a handful of people out today. They enjoyed comfortable temperature (28-30) with low winds and intermittent views through the cloud cover. Was comfortable on top of Eisenhower; didn't need more than a light Gore-Tex jacket and glove liners. I spent 20 minutes on summit and could have easily stayed longer.
No pooches today.
