Found it satisfying to find that the trail I have adopted, Bartram Trail (well 9 miles of it) for the local mt bike club in Augusta, GA has been recognized as a National Recreational Trail. For most its 18 miles (plus 9 more when you add Keg Creek trail) you wander along the southern shores of Lake Thurman, the largest man made lake on the east coast. 95% of the land is undeveloped. The remaining land is a mixture of parks, campgrounds and cottages and most you cannot see from the water.

on a side note we had a trail work party Saturday and 34 folks showed up. Half were bikers, the others hikers. Great to see trail users coming together.
