Snow/Chain Of Ponds - Best Way In?

A few of us are heading into hike Snow the one in the Chain Of Ponds area. By looking at the Maine Gazateer it seems like there may be a way in by vehicle via Rt 27. I understand there is an unmaintaied trail up, just looking to see how to get to it. Any info appreciated.

Follow Gene's directions. Very easy. Take the road in from 27 (13.3 miles north of Stratton) which is marked "Penobscot Indian Territory"; go about 4 miles in; turn right down a hill; go about another mile to a parking area and park. The trail is marked the whole way (but I managed to get lost: read my report).
