Tilton gas prices

I don't know whether this kind of info is still of interest, but here are today's (12/29) gas prices at Exit 18 I-93 for holiday nobos:

Shell 251-9
Irving 253-9

There are a number of online resources that give gas prices. You can probably find something useful at at least one of these...

* http://www.newhampshiregasprices.com/. Unfortunately, there seem to be no reports right now from Tilton right now (prices are reported by spotters).

* http://www.gasbuddy.com/ covers the entire country, but since the prices are from spotter reports, it is best in urban areas. (The above NH reports are from gasbuddy.)

* http://autos.msn.com/everyday/GasStations.aspx?m=1&l=1&zip=03276&x=15&y=7 is based upon dealer reports (has current prices for Tilton), but you need the zip code to inquire about a new area. (You can get zip codes from http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/zcl_0_results.jsp).

* http://www.gaspricewatch.com/new/default_V3.asp which also has some reports from Tilton (based upon spotters).

* http://gasprices.mapquest.com/searc...ce=nh&postalCode=&radius=0&brand=&sortOrder=2 . (Don't know how they get their info.)

Exit 18 is Canterbury not Tilton (Exit 20 is main Tilton exit). There is only one gas station at exit 18 and it is usually 8+ cents more than average prices in the area (Concord). The gas at exit 20 is usually some of the lowest around (even better is you have a BJ's card).
It amazes me how much more it must cost the gas companies to go a couple of exits north as at exit 23 (New Hampton) the same companies gas (Irving) costs 5+ cents more than at exit 20!

On my not infrequent trips to the Boston area I almost always fill up at Tilton in both directions.

Until recently Irvine was almost always the cheapest, but recently I have occasionally seen Shell cheaper, as in the original post.

I never take my computer to the mountains but the signature I can relate to. BTW, I have always found the cheapest prices to be in Errol, Hess stations (all domestic oil sources I understand) and, in the Southeast USA at "El Cheapo" gas stations ... seriously.

Just got back from Colorado where gas prices were in the 2.09 to 2.39/gallon range, with E85, which is only useful in certain new vehicles, a little cheaper than regular.

I don't take my computer to the mountains either, but one can certainly check before leaving home...

I'll admit that I'm tempted to get a netbook for longer trips.

E85 may be a trifle cheaper per gallon, but one gets significantly less mileage out of it. Is is cheaper per mile?

...and usually, but not lately, the prices in Plymouth beat Tilton by a few cents, although this month it's been trending higher for whatever reason. The two gas stations in Plymouth are right off the highway (the more southerly of the two Plymouth exits - sorry, I cant recall the exit number) and are MUCH easier getting on and off Rt 93 than Tilton is.

The Plymouth stations are off exit 26: a Mobil just across the street from Hannaford (with an adjacent Dunkin Donuts) and a Shell station about a mile further. Prices differ by one or two cents. Definitely cheaper than anything else in the Campton/Lincoln/Woodstock area.

Uh uh. I meant the ones on the other exit (Exit 25?). Two gas stations right across from the PSU campus. Those stations are cheaper than the one across from Hanafords. Plus, the gas on Exit 26 is at least 2 miles off the highway.

(This is obviously an example of me having too much knowledge about something that is very insignificant. "Thrifty" is not a word friends use to describe me, but I'm passionate about giving Big Oil as little as I can.)

Yes, I am sure that E85 costs more per mile. I just refilled the rental Chevy Malibu with E85 to save a buck and let the next renter worry about the lower mileage.
