The first half of the Basin trail could definitely use it.

The section of Lawrence that the proposed relo will bypass is the "Overhang", a feature marked on the WODC map. This section traverses a steep, unstable slope, amenable to erosion; that natural erosion is exacerbated by hiking traffic. Some also think that this section presents a safety problem. The relo will take the trail south of, or below, the Overhang, avoiding the steep, unstable slope as well as the view from the Overhang. Its not clear what views may be available from the relo. Despite the continuing erosion and that effective trail maintenance is difficult to impossible to perform, some hikers enjoy the steep climb and feel that this section provides a challenging and fun experience. Soooo, if you have an opinion on how this section of trail should be treated send your comments to the Forest Service. There are about 2 weeks left to comment on the scoping proposal.
