Wambuek via Starr King, Saturday March 5,2011 -- PM
Who: Eric Rathbun, Madison and Terra the Traildoggies, Una_dogger
(hey, wasn't I just here last saturday??)
How: Starr King Rd from winter hiker lot, Starr King Trail
Stats: 7.8 miles, ~4 hours, 10 minutes
Conditions: Packed trail with some postholes, heavy wet snow that balled up our snowshoes. Since we were the last ones in and out, we did our best to over pack the trail that was barebooted by a group of five or six.
Comments: Second hike of the day. Temps remained mild and although winds increased, rain held off. Met up with an AMC Group on thier way down, and also had a wonderful chat with Hiker Ed Hawkins. Winds picked up in the pines and were sustained across the ridge. All evidence of our trip last saturday to South Weeks was completely filled in -- huge drifts at the Kilkenny Ridge Trail Jct -- no one today had bothered to track out past the summit to the viewpoint.
HUGE congrats to Eric for Grid Peak 574! Two to go! Amazing!
