Trails: 19 Mile Brook Tr., Wildcat Ridge Tr., Polecat Ski Tr.

Conditions: 1" to 2" of fresh powder this morning. All trails were hardpacked and solid. 19 Mile Brook trail could be bare booted. One crossing on 19 mbt, that was washed out, had a plank across.

Before the steeps up to Wildcat A, we put our crampons on. The trail was icy in spots, but overall in good shape. Others that we saw made it in micro-spikes, up and down, but traction is needed. From A to D, there were no other fresh tracks. The ridge walk was tedious and tricky, because the rail was pocketed with postholes and the fresh snow hid any lurking ice. Light traction was needed from A to D. Snowshoes wouldn't have worked very well. The walk down Polecat was uneventful. We wore our hillsounds down, which worked well. Our snowshoes stayed on our packs all day. Windy today with sunny sky, a bit on the chilly side. Great day out with Hiker Ed.
