    Mount Jackson 12/30/11

Hiked Jackson branch of Webster-Jackson Trail up and down. Put microspikes on at the trailhead and wore them to the summit. No views today. Sat at the summit and had quick lunch and put crampons on for hike back down. I feel I have a bit more stability in crampons on the ice bulges/flows and...

East Osceola and Osceola from Greeley Ponds Trail/Kanc.

12/29/11. A cold but clear day. Once on the Mount Osceola Trail we put on microspikes but soon changed to crampons due to many ice bulges. Great views all day. Crampons stayed on until back down to Greeley Ponds trail then barebooted back to trailhead.

    Wachusett

Dec. 4, 2011 From the ski area parking lot, I hiked up the Midstate Trail to summit then down the Pine Hill Trail to the Park HQ parking lot. Hiked back up the Pine Hill trail and down Midstate. The mud was partly frozen in many places and ice was coating many of the rocks. No traction was...

Monadnock 11/27/11 - Pumpelly, Red Spot, Cascade Link

Parked at Pumpelly Trail Head by Dublin Pond. A couple of blow downs on Pumpelly Trail before it starts to really climb; one was tricky for short legs to stradle and get over. Otherwise there was just a fair amount of mud and water as the warm temperatures were melting the little bit of snow...

    Eisenhower by Edmands Path 10/2/11

I needed to go hiking for my sanity so even though the forcast called for rain I decided that I would hike Edmands Path. I'd summitted Eisenhower a few times before but it had always been as a traverse across the ridge. I wanted to give the Edmands Path a try. Edmands Path was fairly moderate...

    Taxi Service

I'm considering a backpacking trip from Gorham through the Mahoosucs to Grafton Notch. I may be doing this solo so I need to get a ride back to Gorham. Can anyone recommend one of the Taxi/shuttle services out of Gorham to provide a ride? I checked the AMC website and here are some of the...

    Boot Spur to Mount Washington

Boot Spur Trail to Davis Path and Lawn Cutoff then the Tuckerman Ravine Trail to summit of Mount Washington. I took the Lion Head Trail down. Boot Spur Trail was in good shape. There was not too much mud below tree line. There were a few piles of new lumber along the trail. Looks like trail...

Kinsmans from Lafayette Place on 1/9/11

Followed the Lonesome Lake, F'n Jimmy and Kinsman Ridge trails. Light snow (2-3 inches) covered the trails and it was snowing lightly for most of the day. No views at all. It was like hiking inside a cotton ball. Bare booted to the Hut and then put on crampons (G10's) which stayed on for the...

Long Trail: Lincoln Gap to Appalachian Gap

I plan to take a couple of days between Christmas and New Year's to hike the Long Trail from Lincoln Gap to Appalachian Gap. The plan is to camp/bivy somewhere between Mount Abraham and Mount Ellen. I read a trip report by blacknblue that the Lincoln Gap road was closed about 1 1/4 miles...

    Ammo-Jewell Loop

I had too much work to do around the house this past weekend so I didn't get to head up to Barnes to camp and hike. The weather report for Sunday looked a bit iffy anyway so I really didn't mind hanging around the house and getting the pool opened, but I still had the feeling that I had to get...

    North Kinsman

For the first day of winter Alan and I wanted to get out and do some hiking. We've both had a couple of pretty busy months and had not been able to get out much. I had checked the weather report and although snow was forcast that wasn't going to stop us. I did note the forcast for 40 to 50...

Lost in the Sun on Webster Cliff

Leaf was waiting at the pull-out across from Willey's slide on 302 in Crawford Notch on Saturday morning at 8 am when I pulled in right on schedule after leaving my house at 5:15 am. We knew that Jeff would be right along. He went zipping right past us about 10 minutes later. We were on the...

Monadnock - up White Dot and down White Cross

People, lots of people on the trail today. After two days mowing and raking in my yard I had to get out. Going to the Whites was not an option as I had to stop in my office for an hour today to finish a presentation for tomorrow. So I went to Monadnock with a slight detour to my office. This...

    Pack Monadnock and North Pack

From the Miller State Park parking lot on Route 101 I took the Wapack Trail up to the summit of Pack Monadnock and then continued to North Pack. Trail was a little muddy in spots and there were some small patchs of snow left. No special equipment needed. I wore my summer hiking boots...

    Franconia Ridge

3/18/08 Falling Waters, Franconia Ridge, OBP Loop. The weather report called for a nice day and I had no meeting scheduled at work. I started out bare boot but soon put crampons on while going up the Falling Waters Trail. Kept the crampons on until I got down below 3000 feet on the OBP and...

Katahdin: Pamola, Baxter and Hamlin Peaks

I've always wanted to get up to Katahdin, but never took the time. Finally, my brother Alan and I decided it was time to take the six hour drive to Baxter State Park. We both took Friday Aug. 4th and Monday Aug. 7th off from our jobs so we could have a nice four day weekend. Alan met me at my...

    Moosilauke Traverse, June 9, 2006

After a few emails, PM's and phone calls to coordinate, Kmac and I met for the first time at the Kinsman Notch/Beaver Brook Trail parking lot. We quickly got our things together and then headed off in my car for the trailhead for the Glencliff Trail on the west side of Moosilauke. The ride...

    Moosilauke on Friday June 9

I have been planning on taking this Friday off from work to go on one last training hike before the "Pound the Presi's" Traverse. Any one want to join me for a hike of Moosilauke in the rain? I am planning on being at the trailhead between 8:30 and 9 am. If we have two cars, we could do a car...
