A Little AMC White Mountain Guide History

I finally made the decision to break down and buy a Kindle and started looking around at all the available content. I was hopeful that I might find that the WMG was available for it, but alas not yet. I then did a general search for "amc white mountain guide ebook" and turned up some hidden gems! A number of the early editions are in the public domain and are available in PDF and various ebook formats. All of them are scanned editions from the Harvard University library. Fun looking back at the old days...

Looks like there will be some fun (free) reading on the new Kindle when it arrives. Of course there's also the complete 8 volume writings of John Muir and more classics that I've never read than could be finished in a lifetime. At some point I might even break down and buy a Kindle edition of a new book

You might also want to check these out. The earliest volumes have a WEALTH of history on trails and early journeys in the White Mountains. True gems! I have been reading the first 3 volumes (downloaded in PDF) on my Kindle for weeks now!!!

(For instance, some of the memorable articles explain how women should dress for camp , explorations across the twins/ethan pond, explorations of the tripyramids, a journey up scar mtn via the actual scar, etc..... would be neat to recreate these journeys!!!)

Thanks Becca - that's awesome! I hadn't thought to look for Appalachia. Every time we're in the huts or AMC lodges I always grab a couple of the old ones that they have on the shelves for nighttime reading. Those will be among the first things downloaded on the Kindle for sure!

This one looks great too! I'm almost afraid of going back and starting to explore all the other old books like this that are out there. There's not going to be any time left for hiking!
