Some of you may be interested in the WMNF Trailhead Steward program. It's an education/outreach progrsm they started this year. Might be to late to get involved this year, but if you contact them now, you could make sure you're on the notification list if they do it again next year. Information is here.

TH Steward Program Training April 17th

Hey guys, I was a Trailhead Steward last year, and will be again this year. There was a noticeable drop in SAR missions last summer in these areas, which has made NHF&G quite happy.

I've volunteered to help John M. from the USFS on his organizing activities. The date for training is Saturday, April 17th at WMNF in Campton. We had about 32 people covering the five highest-incident trail heads last year (you can count them off: Falling Waters, Ammo...) on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays. With 32 folks, we were only able to cover 50% of all available shifts. He is considering a second session for those that can't make the first. We need twice that many volunteers. I will be there, and also happy to answer questions here.

For a info, go here:

But all the gory details are here:
It's a real chill morning only activity. You get a really cool official looking WMNF/USFS volunteer shirt. Hikers are a friendly lot, so it's an easy 30 second chat with them.

There are considerations about expanding it once we get to a critical mass of volunteers.

Hope you can join us!

If you cannot make this session and would like to see a second session, please let me know. Perhaps on a Sunday, a few weeks later?

I second Bill's comments that the Trailhead Steward Program is proving to be both very worthwhile as well as fun and fulfilling for the volunteers.

Bump.
We've got 38 volunteers signed up for the Saturday May 21st training in Campton. It would be best if we had 50 volunteers so we can have confidence that all trail head is covered. Last year we were unable to staff every trail head every weekend. with that we reached out to 10,000 (yes, you read that correctly!) hikers of all stripes.
