Opening soon a wood fired pizza place in Gorham with microbrews on tap (no mixed drinks). The folks opening it up have a woodfired pizza trailer they run to all the farmers markets in the region. There is usually a line where ever they set up. It will be in the restaurant that is one block north of Mc Donalds a few blocks north of Mr Pizza. The area definitely has a market for higher end pizza as the other local offerings arent anything special.

I also hope that they get a better variety of beers on tap as Mr Pizza seems to prefer stocking whatever the local major distributor is pushing. Its supposed to be opening soon so it may be worth checking to see if its open when visiting.

Update, the opening date is mid june

Hope they do well. The local market can definitely use an alternative to Mr Pizza. Salt Pub next to Libbys Bistrois a good option but just doesn't get the hiker traffic.

They claim they will have six local microbrews on tap.

That was my favorite as well, but it burned down because of my "aura." Well maybe I should explain. I have this eerie situation which causes restaurants to go up in flames shortly after I visit them.

So in the vein of hiker safety, I will refrain from mentioning any of my favorite restaurants in the Whites, as I'd hate for anyone to be a conflagration victim. So far this aura has not seemed to follow me to Arizona (knock on wood).

Can you PLEASE go eat on top of Owl's Head or something? A view would be nice....

Will they have pizza by the slice ready to eat? That would be awesome!

LOL...I'll be there in July for a hike but at the moment it seems like it'll be Webster Cliff and Mt Jackson. I'll try to leave the matches in the car!

The restaurant looks like its sit down versus takeout. Their claim to fame is a 900 degree oven so the pizza is cooked in 90 seconds.

I'm pretty sure the one thing I've *never* had at Mr. Pizza is ... pizza!

I've eaten at Mr Pizza's several times over the years, and I've never had a bad meal. Always been tasty, reasonably priced, good service, etc. And they don't mind if the hiker crowd smells a little sweaty or if in a group we get a bit noisy swapping lies.

Don't know if this has been mentioned above, but there's a new sub/pizza/calzone shop in Twin Mtn near the light, not too far from the old Mooseland. Has a log-cabin look to it. For awhile it was one of those franchise-style sub shops whose name escapes me - good food but too expensive for the area. It's not always open, but when it is it saves a longish hungry drive to Lincoln for those of us heading south for home.

As for N. Conway - I know there are many fine eateries there, but ... it's such a traffic nightmare (and yes, I know all the bypasses) that unless it's before 7AM or after 10PM, I avoid it. I know that isn't possible for some of you.

The place in twin mountain (adjacent to the living waters campground) looks like it has changed management. It was a Quiznos for awhile and then went independent. I stopped by the other weekend and got one of their sandwich specials, it was very good but quite pricey. Somewhere around $12 for a sandwich and some so called handmade potato chips that were suspiciously like what I get in a standard bag.

Speaking of Twin Mtn, the variety store just north of the lights adjacent to the post office appears to be in rough financial shape, many empty shelves and poorly stocked coolers. Few national brands on the shelves and all sort of odd libertarian/ gun posters all over the walls. Its too bad as they are usually open a little earlier in the AM then the other places in twin mountain. Almost makes it worth the ride up to Fabyans.

Mr Pizza is serves until 11pm & has poutine, two fine qualities in a restaurant! Did a presi traverse yesterday and with all the hiking & car spotting we still got to have a good meal!

.

It is Catalano's. They have good quick Italian food, grilled sammiches, and pizza. I go there alot after hiking because they are super friendly, and the food is really good. They aren't just tolerant of hikers - they welcome them.

It used to have good food when the hot bar/deli was open. I used to buy my parking pass there but now their gas is high priced so I rarely stop.

That's distressing. That's my favorite place to get subs. $6 or so buys plenty of tasty cheesesteak or chicken parm. I heard about a year ago that they'd changed ownership, that the new owner wanted to expand to include a Maia Papaya (*awesome* Bethlehem coffee shop) type environment, but since then the only thing I'd noticed were the posters.

Isn't the store associate with the campground rather "in your face" with their political viewpoints in some of the Ts and bumper stickers they stock? If it is the place I'm thinking of, it rather turned us out of there.

Yup, that's the name - thanks. Unfortunately they weren't open last Tuesday nite after a Bonds traverse - the thought of one of their hot sandwiches helped motivate me the last 5 miles!

As for the Irving station near the Post office - as peakbagger said - it's not the same place at all. I was there a couple of weeks ago - didn't stay long - nothing to buy, really and the posters ... yuck.

Just tried take out and very tasty. Definitely high end as I walked away with a large pizza and 1 side salad for 22 bucks. The pizza was kinda small and we both agreed we could easily have eaten a whole each. Makes sense as I realized they will need to pay a high air conditioning bill. Very busy and difficult to park near- wonder where the atv's will park?

I don't hear it mentioned often but Gorham House of Pizza is just north of the rte 2/16 intersection on rte 16. They've always been consistent for basic subs, pizza, gyros, etc. I choose them over Mr. Pizza most of the time since the last meal I had at Mr. Pizza was terrible - I assume it was not typical since so many people seem to like it.

Regarding the Irving in Twin Mountain, I have never had any issues with the people working there. I stop there for coffee periodically when headed that way and have always been met with friendly service.

The political posters on the wall are of course the owners choice. I don't think it's a smart business move to plaster any political views all over your business. But it's the owner's business, not the local high school, and he can put whatever he likes on the wall. There are other options for gas and coffee for those who disagree strongly enough to not use it.

It certainly doesn't have a good coffee shop vibe though if they were really thinking of going in that direction at one point. Too bad because the deck is actually a nice place to sit with a muffin and coffee. View is hard to beat.
