    Tripoli Road in October

Is Tripoli Road, by Waterville Valley Ski Area, open at this time? We will be in the area and also are any sections unpaved? Thanks in advance ... Jim Merchant

    Mt Cabot & Kilkinny range

My son and I did the York Pond Trail and Bunnell Notch at the end of July. We were only summitting Cabot and then back down. Ate lunch at the Cabot Cabin which looked good for bunking. Trail was good and lots of water to grab and filter on the way through.

Our 4 month old daughter's first hike...

My votes I would agree to the Diana's Baths ... good walk in the woods with some uphill, easy going and great water views. Have also done Willard and it has some great views for minimal work. Maybe up Tuckerman Ravine Trail to Crystal Cascade - not too bad with a very small one. Great falls...

Best post-hike restaurants, bars, pizzerias, ice cream, etc.

Several good choices - that I vote for! I would definitely recommend Cafe Noche in Conway for Mex food - great and good Margs too! The Horse is always good and they pour real Guinness and/or black&tans Red Parka in Glenn is good tavern atmos with bell jar pints and entertainment on the walls...

Suggestions Requested: hike in So. Vt or N.H. tomorrow

Maybe Western Mass? We hiked the Seven Sisters Sunday on the Mount Holyoke Range. Started in Amherst, MA and hiked across about 6 miles to the Mt Holyoke Summit House in Hadley, MA. Not really southern VT or NH ... but views!? You can see the CT River way up and down the Pioneer Valley, UMASS...

    Wanting Good Easter Sunrise

Thanks all ... Cathedral Ledge won! Thanks to all who suggested various hikes. Hurricane Mountain Rd was closed, so we chose another direction. Cathedral Ledge sounded and looked good when we scoped it out on Saturday, so we headed up just after 5:30 and got a couple of pics to share of the...

    Spring Snowstorm coming!

Adjustment in packing Heading up there this weekend in hopes of getting a good Easter sunrise. Will now KEEP the snowshoes in the car, may not rack the bikes on the roof after all! Old Mutha Nature strikes again! Still beats hanging in CT for the weekend. -TrekMan :D and Fiddlehead :o

    Ladders on Osceo trail

More on the ladders Have not been there recently, but went through them last September on the way to Flume for FOT48. Many in our fairly large crew only complained that there were TOO MANY STEPS!! And coming down in the storm was no picnic. I also liked the trail and would be interested in the...

    Wanting Good Easter Sunrise

Thanks to all !! Thanks to all of you for the suggestions. We are considering also that we will have to do this with headlamps, Cathedral Ledge road is familiar (rode my bicycle up it several times) and there is little rough ground to cover. This may be our best choice. We want to be in place...

    Wanting Good Easter Sunrise

Looks possible Amicus - looked at the topo map and it looks do-able. Is the top open enough to get good pics? I can call the B&B to see if the road is open at this time. Looks like maybe a 10-minute drive to trailhead - staying on Kearsarge Road. Thanks ... TrekMan

    Wanting Good Easter Sunrise

We are going to be staying in North Conway this weekend and want a good place to go Sunday for sunrise pics. Should be do-able within about 1 hour of the 6:00 a.m. time spot. Maybe a short drive, then a short walk to vantage point? Any great ideas to share? -Thanks ... TrekMan

    watching the skiiers

Been there ... done that ... bought the T-shirt The last time I was there, hiked up with my son, who is younger than me, I said that the next time I would not drag 25+ pounds of skis with me as the fatigue disallowed me from carving any turns to speak of. Alternatively I would bring a camera...

    Wanting snowshoeing recommendation

Hi, We are headed up to North Conway area Easter weekend and snowshoeing is our choice as my wife's knee is still hurtin' from Flume last year on the FOT48. We have use the shoes and her knee is doing well, but I am thinking that bigtime uphill will not be good. Maybe lower part of Tuckerman...

    In-Line Water Filter??

More on water Hi MEB - My son, "Dirt", has been using a new device. It's a pump that fits onto Nalgene bottles and you just stick the tube down into the water and pump for maybe 30 seconds to fill a bottle. Sort of like a bike frame pump. He says it weight under 1 pound. Takes everything out. I...
