Southwest Twin - words of Wisdom solicited.

Maybe I'll do it that way. Like you said, long day - what is it, 12+ of hypnotic clamback railroad grade + the bushwhack? How soon after RR Brook to you hang a right and head up? I assume you would take the most westward ridge

Southwest Twin - words of Wisdom solicited.

Aborted Did not hit it today. It was pretty pea soupish, in the low 40s with a gale, and the trees soaked, so I blew off doing it. Instead, walked down to the Hut (ugh), then down gale river trial, then took some forest service roads back to the North Twin TH. That was a nice walk. The...

Southwest Twin - words of Wisdom solicited.

Will do. My plan is to take it from the Twinway and battle those high-altitude conifers. I'll be using a map/compass only, not GPS (don't own one).

Southwest Twin - words of Wisdom solicited.

Hey now, I'm thinking Southwest Twin bushwhack later this week. I have read the very few posts in here that decribe this, but not a lot of into. Some of done it from the west (Franc Brook) some from the Twinway. My plan was to hit it from the Twinway. Will it be hand-to-hand combat with the...

3 nights in the Whites, where to go?

wildriver - park at the campground, head south, find a place to camp - should be easy along that big, beautiful river. then, you can go up baldfaces and do a loop (lovely above treeline) or go up the other side and do something tasty along the carters.

Dry River suspension bridge - functional or not?

I was in the DRWA earlier this summer and the suspension bridge was out, with a big, bad, threatening sign saying if you go across it, you could go to jail and shell out $5,000 fine. Does anyone know if this is opened or is it still in the broken state? thanks.

    Dry River Crossings

Well, we went up Isolation via the dry river trail. The bridge is indeed "out" as the sign says. The river was running pretty high. Originally, we had planned to go to Eisenhower -> Pierce, but skipped on that due to the river flow and the multiple crossings we would have had to make.

    Dry River Crossings

Thinnking of doing a loop from 302 dry river trail, over Eisenhower, over Pierce, etc then back down the dry river trail. The $64,000 question is: will the river crossings be passable? Or, given the piles of rain, impossible? thanks!

Pillbury -> Sunapee, and back again

This is a section of the M-S greenway I have been waiting to do for years. Was gonna do it last week, but the weather wasn't cooperative. When I saw those heavy fronts and the big drop in temp predicted for Wednesday, I put in for the time off and made the day out of it. 18 miles. From...
