    Baby on their backs

Growing up, my family always camped; but I tended to wander away. Their solution was to tie me to a tree.

    Glacial Striae

My son and I hiked the Kinsmans yesterday, and I noticed what I think is glacial striae just as you pass the caretaker's tent, before you get to the new shelter. What do you think? Any glacial geologists out there? Dr. D? Picture 1 Picture 2 New Shelter

Who are the legends of the New England mountains?

Bully How about Good Ole Teddy Roosevelt? After spending a night under the stars along side John Muir in Yosemite, (and waking up under a blanket of snow the next morning), thought it that might be good to put aside some of the wilderness for future generations.

    No guilt needed?

Apology? I feel I owe a great debt to "The List" (the NH 4000's in my case). If I hadn't seen a patch and a plaque on a wall, and asked some questions, I would have missed out on a LOT of fine days (and nights) spent on the trail. Does anyone need to scan their 35mm slides?

At least with the Nikon scanner, it's one slide at a time. Depending on the quality, each image can be 20MB or more. Image quality is good, but dust seems to be an issue. Lots of post processing.

    trouble shooting help, please.

They are called The Galilean moons: Ganymede, Callisto, Io and Europa. These are the ones Galileo Galilei discovered with his newly built telescope on January 7, 1610. What is cool is that you can see their position change throughout the night, days and weeks. More info

    Foggy tent platform

I like moody shots like this. I like how the background fades out. I think the stump on the right is a bit too strong, and I think I would have tried to move to get that out of the frame. Other than that it conveys the mood nicely.

    GPS Base maps

Is Garmin’s MapSource software the only way to upload base maps to Garmin GPS units? I have a Garmin eTrex Vista and need to upload additional base maps. I hiked my first VT 4000 footer over the weekend and although the waypoints uploaded fine, there was nothing else there (contour lines, trails...
