Bear canister rental near Upper Works

I'm in the early planning stages for a mid/late October High Peaks trip and was wondering where we might be able to rent bear canister en route to the Upper Works trailhead.

My previous trips have been out of Keene Valley or the Loj, so I've got cans at either the HPIC or The Mountaineer, but would prefer not to waste the time/gas going out of the way there.

I can loan you mine, but it's the type that one bear has figured out how to open. Lemme know.

I don't know where you're coming from, but here's a list of canister rental locations:

You'll want to make sure it's a Garcia or another approved canister, not the BearVault.

The Moutaineer in Keene Valley may be the closest location, about 50 minutes drive from Upper Works.

Maybe Blue Mountain Outfitters in Blue Mountain Lake, if they are still open in the fall.

If you are driving up I-87, there is an EMS store at exit 15, Saratoga Springs.

Try the Cloudsplitter outfitter in Newcomb. I don't know if they rent canisters, but they might.

I notice you live in CT. If you pass Albany, NY or Saratoga, NY on the way north stop by EMS. They rent equipment.
