Everyone has heard of Machu Picchu. But if you don't want to spend your day at the ruins with 2500 other tourists, there has always been a backcountry alternative: Choquequirao. It's a hellishly brutal hike up and down mountains, but the end result puts you at a ruins site that's more wild than Machu Picchu, but with the same architecture and views. Due to the extreme nature of the hike, there's only ever a handful of people there...
so why not build a tram to the summit so more tourists can go?
