I thought I post this here too as I emailed the campground itself, what is the best way (post darkness) to get to the LostRiver campground on Rt112 4 miles west of No. Woodstock?

I've driven from Bradford, VT to No Woodstock via Rt 25->25C->118->112 but it appears that the Lost River is west of the 118/112 junction and it might be faster to go up to either exit 17 in Wells River to 302->112 or perhaps exit 16 and take Rt 10 north to connect with 302 or so....

This will most likely be after dark too so that might be a consideration. I am familiar with the Bradford route as I took that last year to get to the Waterest campground in Woodstock...

Thanks!

exit 17 in Wells River to 302->112

When I was unfortunate enough to not live where I live I came in that way from CT with frequency. Simplest, in my opinion, but I'm not an expert...

If you go off the road please be aware that these directions were given by a non-expert.

112 all the way from 302 is a LONG drive, full of twists and turns and lousy pavement. Personally, I'd come across from I-91 in Fairlee into Orford, then take 25A to 25 to 118 then backtrack a bit on 112 as needed.

The section of 112 from 302 (Bath) to about Benton is slow, curvy, and the pavement is all broken up. High danger of hitting a moose here as you cannot see very far, especially in the dark. My mother-in-law lives 5 minutes from the 112/302 junction, so we drive 112 all the time.

We usually drive 112 to Wells River

Even in the dark we usually drive 112 to wells river from north woodstock. the campground is less than a mile from the intersection of rts 118 and 112.

The drive from Woodsville to North Woodstock is windy and it seems narrow in places. There are some turns where one has to slow down to 25 mph even in good weather. There are stretches where one can hit 60 mph easily. For the most part 112 is well paved.

I think if you want to minimize your time on back roads and maximize your time on the interstate get off in Well River, head to Woodsville on 302 East to 112 East to the campground.

Don't mind the backroads, actually sometimes on long drives, the interstate gets very monotonous...

Somebody feed some Nyquil to these Moose.. I think I'll stick with the route that I am familiar with. Especially if the campground is only a mile from 112/118. I don't want to meet any wayward Meese on the roads.. :p

OOPS, found out that we're not staying at Lost River, we're at Osceola Vista, which appears to be by Waterville valley... I guess looking at the maps, we can use MichaelJ's idea and take Exit 15 and get onto 25A to 25 right to I-93 and go north a short way to exit 28 for Route 49...

FWIW, I've measured distances and times between White River Junction and Lincoln:

a) 91-exit 15-25A-118-112 is 59 miles/76 minutes

b) 91-exit 17-302-112 is 69 miles/85 minutes

times were measured while driving the speed limits during daylight hours with dry roads and no traffic delays.

Yeah, I looked at all these routes last year getting to Woodstock from I-91, exit 17 is kind of like going a bit further north to just go south... It was a toss up between exit 1 and MichaelJ's exit 15 route...

Of course, it's moot going to Osceola, exit 15 seems to be the way to go...

Thanks all, just hope the meese are all asleep :p.

I live between exit 14 and exit 15 on 91. The fastest way for me to get to the 112/118 junction is to go to exit 16 in Bradford, turn right off the ramp to Rt. 5 North, turn right on Newbury Crossing Rd, go North on NH 10 , turn right onto 116 in N. Haverill, and then right onto 112 at the 112/116 junction. Hands down, the fastest way. Plus, I've seen more Moose on 25A/118 than on the aforementioned route.

Yup, that's it. I use this route all the time to and from Hanover. I usually don't bother with Newbury, just I-91 Bradford exit>NH10>NH 116>NH112. The latter half is especially prone to moose.

Thanks Jason and Waumbek, looks like it's going around Mousilauke on the north side... I'll have to check that out the next time...

We actually wound up going a different route than the plan to get to Osceola, we took I-89 South to Lebanon to Rt 4 to Rt 118 to 25 to I-93 north for like one or two exits to exit 28. Worked out good, of course, we got to Osceola by like midnight so we didn't hit or expect to see any traffic post the NYS thruway which was non-existent. We got gas near Lebanon and was good to go.
