There is an on going search for a fellow padding back from a round trip paddle to Star Island, NH part of the Isle of Shoals... they are about 7 miles off shore.

Seems not. The reports are somewhat confusing. One says he was found, but is now lost again. http://www.seacoastonline.com/articles/20090227-NEWS-90227045

According to the Ch 5 (Boston ABC) news (Feb 28, 11pm) he still has not been found.


It appears that someone raised an alarm on the kayaker as he headed out to Isle of Shoals initiating search #1. He was found safe on his way out. However, it appears that he ran into trouble on his way back in, prompting search #2.

For those of you who don't have your charts handy, Boon Island is ~12 mi NE of Smuttynose Island (one of the Isles of Shoals) and ~8 mi from shore. (The empty kayak was found near Boon Island.) Boon is shown as if it is awash at high tide.

Thanks for the various links, it has been a bit confusing with being lost then found then missing etc.
Hard to seem overly optmistic with so many hours gone by.

I think this thread and the one about... "at what time do you call in a rescue? Might be an example unfolding before us, but there are no hard fast answers to these things.

It's a tough situation, hope all will work out well.
