Date of Hike: Sat., Mar. 17, 2012

Trails: Crawford Path, Eisenhower Loop Tr., Webster Cliff Tr.

Conditions: Hard packed snow this morning on the Crawford Path to the Webster Cliff Tr. jct. From there to the jct. with the Eisenhower loop trail, it was a mixture of soft snow, rock, and soft ice. Lots of deep postholes along this route. Eisenhower cone was mostly bare with a ribbon of soft ice in the center of the trail to the top. We wore Micro-Spikes or Hillsounds all the way to the summit of Ike and back to Pierce. The snow on the ridge was starting to really soften up on the way back. One in our party switched to snowshoes, but with all the posthole damage, it is difficult, even in snowshoes. The best we could do was to be careful and tread softly on previous footsteps. The Crawford path back down was still hardpack by afternoon, and snowshoes weren't necessary. Great day out today with Bill, Al, Glenn, Dee, Dave, and Michelle. Our group split up on Pierce, with Bill, Al, and Glenn heading over to do Jackson. Congratulations to Bill Marcotte for finishing his single season Winter loop on Jackson today. Beautiful warm sunny day with just a gentle breeze.
