Lost Ice axe on the Kate Sleeper Trail

My friend Andy lost an ice axe on the Kate Sleeper Trail somewhere between Whiteface and the intersection with the Downes Brook Trail. It says NUHOC on it and has a piece of foam where the head meets the shaft. If you are heading up there could you keep an eye out for it? Thanks a lot...

    10/29 Washington or what ?

Definitely be careful on the Ammo Ravine Trail. I decended it last weekend and found it very icy and steep. Check out my pictures at http://www.shutterbook.com/albums/Tomahawk/29651 to see what it was like. -Tomahawk

Ammonoosuc and Jewell Trails this weekend

I hiked down the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail on Saturday 10/22 right before the big snow hit. It was absolutely covered with ice from the constant waterfall descending down the "trail". I would definitely bring crampons and an ice axe if you plan on tackling this beast! Check out my pictures at...

    Different types of hiking boots

I just did a search of the forums and could not find a specific thread that described this topic. I have just gotten back into hiking this summer and have heard lots of talk about different types of boots for different conditions. I bought a pair of Asolo Fugitive boots and was wondering if...

    MT. Madison?

At the start of my Presi Traverse last weekend we used the Pine Link Trail. It had quite a few trees fallen over the path but besides that it was quick and steep for the most part. With all the recent snowfall I would advise you to take a longer, less steep trail such as the Scout trail. Good...

    South Shore Massachusetts Sunrise Views

Hi everyone! I have been thinking a lot about getting up early to watch the sun rise every morning and need some cool spots to go. The criteria would be somewhere not too difficult to get to in the dark, not too far of a walk, and a great view of the East. I know a few spots such as Quincy...

    Northern Presidential Traverse

I hope everyone can see my pictures now. When I was looking for a photo hosting site Shutterbook stood out as a great choice because of its sharpness and free hosting. Since some people don't have Flash 8.0 it prohibits people from spending the time to check out my pics. Does anyone have any...

    Northern Presidential Traverse

Thanks a lot for the replies everyone. We had a great time and really lucked out with the weather! As for the times, we left at 12:30am, hit Madison at 4:30am, Adams at sunrise (whatever time that was), don't know about Jefferson or Clay, but we hit Washington at 11:30am and were back in the...

    Northern Presidential Traverse

On Saturday 10/22 myself and two friends attempted a full presidential traverse. We left one car at the AMC Highland Center in Crawford Notch and one car at the Cog Railway parking lot and got dropped off at the Pine Link trail around 12:30am. With headlamps on we started hiking up this steep...

    Moosilauke Solo Hike 10/15/05

That was a great report that really made my lunch break relaxing! I took Monday off from work because I couldn't go hiking this weekend and did a few short solo hikes in the Blue Hills. On a beautiful day after such a rainy month I really took in all of the scenery with an open mind and a...

Thanks for the advice everyone! The group size has increased to four and the other three have done the Presi's before. We all have crampons, an ice axe, full winter gear including goggles, balaclavas, hats, gortex gloves, and gaiters. We plan on leaving around midnight and hiking until we...
