Jay, Sounds like a great trip. I imagine it was great being out in the fog, even though a bit scary. I'm sure you kayak as far as you hike!! Take care....Bruce

    Mar 11 & 12 in the Whites

Hi Bob, Might be interested if I can work this out. I'd be coming up from N.J. Definitely sounds good doing the hike. Only thing is I'd like to campout on Sat night. Have a new 4 season tent and I'd like to get some time in it. Do you know if there's some place near the bunkhouse where I...

Slurpees in the Adirondacks - one wet/frozen trip

I drive up to the Loj Friday afternoon and parked at one of the South Meadow campsites where I slept in the car. Other than the pouring rain - it wasn't bad - certainly wasn't to cold. That Saturday morning met Sean and his friend Andrew (Two folks I met for the first time through VFFT). It...

Suggestions for 2 -3 day winter camping in DAKs

Sean, Been laid up with a bad cold the last few days, haven't felt like doing any emails. It will take me about 7 hours to get to the ADK Loj.. I was planning on leaving some time on Friday. If you're leaving late in the day what time would you be getting there? Guess your planning on...

Suggestions for 2 -3 day winter camping in DAKs

Sean, Just checked your other posting and seems like you've planned a good trip! I'll check out the trip on the maps. By any chance do you have a Bear Vault for food storage? They're required on the DAKS. Not sure what your pace is, mine is slow and steady, especially in winter. Bruce

Suggestions for 2 -3 day winter camping in DAKs

Ideally I'd like to hike into a nice spot to put my tent. From there do some hiking and peakbagging for 2 - 3 days. I won't be dragging a sled, but will have crampons, snowshoes and ice ax. Appreciate any site, trailhead and Mountain suggestions. Maybe even company. Only trail I've done in the...

    Jersey gathering.. interest?

Jay, Great idea! I agree that people are sometimes surprised at the beauty in NJ. The "WHAT EXIT?" jokes, and the views from the NJ Turnpike tend to obscure some of our natural beauty. (Not to mention the 7 Natural wonders!). Count me IN.

    katahdin this winter march maybe??

Giggy, Sounds like a plan to me. Let me know the detals as you get them. There is a slight chance I may be doing a Denali trip, so my days off might be highly rationed. Will Jay be carrying our stuff? :) I'll send a hotmail letter to you. Stay well, ClimbHi

Pictures from Mt. Rainier & Thanks

Sherpa, Your pictures are amazing, you've got real talent. There's a picture of Ed and me descending, (#86), that sums up the entire trip for me, the beauty of the mountain, the potential danger and the perfectly captured scale showing the size of it all. Not bad for a beer-sucking, wiffy...

Rainier - Sounds great! I Just got back from a 4 day Mountaineering Seminar out in the Sierra Nevadas. (With AAI). An intensive course on winter camping, glacier travel and crevase rescue. (We also did 2 days of ice climbing - lots of fun - but not to applicable to Rainier. I've was on Mt...
