Talk about dumb luck making that wrong turn and ending up at Bamforth Shelter. Not simply as cover from precipitation, which wasn't a factor in this case, but as a landmark to relay their position.

Seriously. How much more unprepared could one party be?

There was another rescue from Bamforth Ridge shelter on Thursday night if I remember. It often blows my mind how unprepared people are going up there.

In March I was getting down to the bottom of the Monroe Trail between 4 and 5 PM and ran into five high-school kids at the parking lot, all in sneakers, jeans, hoodies, etc. One had a small backpack (little more than a hydration bladder). One asked us how long it would take to get to the top. Even after we told them there was no way they'd make it anywhere near the top before it got dark, they started up anyway. Never heard from them again, but I sure hope somebody learned a lesson there.

Really, how often does this happen?
