Sounds like you had fun
A couple of locations in LP allow you to get next to the lake. What I've found that works is to park at the public lot just past the skating rink & then walk. LP is more compact than NC & therefore, walking up & down the main drag gets you to most of the shops. $5.00 to park all day in the lot & the trolley is free.
While I was up in the ADK, we went to Old Forge which was nice (main street does get busy) and drove threw/by Raquette Lake which looked great too

Nah...the EMS in LP is miniscule compared with Mecca on the White Mountain Highway.
(We always make sure to genuflect as we drive by en route to Pinkham/Crawford/etc.
