AT thru hikers do it as a slackpack frequently. Arguably the hardest section is the hike up from Pinkham notch, if heading north its the first thing in the morning. The other steep hike is up from Carter Notch. The rest of the day is a grind, although the hike down off North Carter is very steep. For most weekend warriors its a real long day
