Shopping for a lens for your SLR? Beware: built-in flash is not compatable with all lenses.

I learned this the first day with a new lens. While waiting for sunset, I saw this snake slowly cruising the shoreline. I slowly crawled in, hand and knees, then put my elbows down right in the water. The snake came right in front of me, and then stopped and posed. I thought I had a really nice picture

The black blob is a shadow caused by the lens, which is too fat.

Happy Trails :)

Hey Forestnome, I know what you're talking about. I have a Tokina 12-24 lens that happens to be my absolute favorite, but I have to pay attention to where and when I can use the flash. Outside as a fill flash is usually OK, but dark or inside shots with flash as primary light source...forget about it!

bummer. That would have been a cool shot.

Sometimes you can incorporate your shadow into the picture and it's ok.
