FRANCONIA, N.H. -- Bring the family for a day exploring outdoor skills and wellness tips in a fun and exciting environment at the First Annual Feel'n Top Notch Outdoor Expo and Wellness Fair on Saturday, August 16, 2008, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. at New Hampshire's Cannon Mountain Ski Area, primarily in the Peabody Lodge area.

Cannon Mountain, Littleton Regional Hospital, Pemigewasett Valley Search & Rescue, Franconia Notch Chamber of Commerce and the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department have collaborated to create what will likely become one of the North Country's largest summer events.

"This event is a great opportunity for a family to visit Franconia Notch State Park and enjoy numerous activities and learn about the outdoors for only $5 per adult. It is truly one of the great bargains of the summer," said Frank Grimma, President of the Franconia Notch Chamber of Commerce.

The $5 per person admission includes all activities, exhibits and demonstrations, with the exception of tram rides and boat rentals. Children under 12 get in free.

The event will have four major components -- exhibits, demonstrations and 45-minute mini-seminars and activities. In addition, more than 40 vendors will be on hand to demonstrate outdoor or health-related services or products.

Planned mini-seminars include sessions on the HikeSafe program; Hiking with Children; Moose Facts and Myths; Bugs, Bites and Leaves of Three; Map & Compass; Basics of GPS; "I miss my Old Man"; and a discussion of plans for the old Mittersill ski slopes. Activities will include a climbing wall, bands, clowns, face painting, trail bike rides (bikes supplied), nature hikes, GPS geocaching and obstacle courses. Demonstrations will include a simulated rescue of an injured hiker, maintaining your bike, fly-casting, canoeing and kayaking, water rescue and more.

For a list of specific times for various demonstrations and mini-seminars, visit www.wildlife.state.nh.us/Newsroom/News_2008/News_2008_Q3/Feelin_Top_Notch_080608.html.

You'll be able to get an up-close look at the New Hampshire National Guard Blackhawk helicopter, the DHART helicopter, forest fire equipment, the Grafton County Sheriff's Department Communications and Command Trailer, and numerous other exhibits.

At this event, you'll have fun and get healthier, too! The wellness fair component will include free blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose screenings, massage therapy, Reiki, Reflexology, herbal medicine, acupuncture and several fitness demonstrations and mini-seminars on Yoga for Kids, QiGong, T-Tapp, Marma Point and Circuit Training.

"The Feel'n Top Notch Outdoor Expo and Wellness Fair will showcase all that the Park has to offer year round in a fun and exciting environment," said John DeVivo, General Manager of Cannon Mountain and Franconia Notch State Park.

The fun continues into the evening on August 16, 2008, when the Littleton Regional Hospital Auxillary will host an evening of dancing to the popular Wicked Smart Horn Band from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. at the Peabody Lodge. Admittance to the dance is $20 per person. Proceeds benefit the Littleton Regional Hospital Charitable Foundation.

Gail Clark, director of development and community relations at Littleton Regional Hospital said, "We are so pleased with all of the support we have received to be able to offer this event. FairPoint Communications is our lead Feel'n Top Notch sponsor. Additional support has been received from Bear Images, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care of NE, New England Employee Benefits Co., Eastern Mountain Sports, Tender Corp. - Natrapel, Peabody & Smith Real Estate, Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank, Advanced Graphic Communications, Creative Financial Strategies, Inc. and several individuals who provided financial support so that we could offer this premier event in northern New Hampshire."

Anyone wanting more information can go to the LRH website at www.littletonhospital.org or call the Franconia Chamber of Commerce at 603-823- 5661.

The Feel'n Top Notch Expo Coordinating Committee includes Gail Clark, Director of Development LRH; John DeVivo, Manager, Franconia Notch State Parks; Allan Clark, President of Pemi-Valley Search and Rescue; Frank Grimma, President Franconia Chamber of Commerce; Mark Beauchesne, New Hampshire Fish and Game; Gareth Slatery and Amy Bassett, Cannon Mountain and Franconia Notch State Park; Stephanie Warsnip, Boston Culinary Group; and Deb Ramirez, LRH.
