Two inches of loose snow on top of hard crust was already packed by an early hiker wearing snowshoes. I used micro-spikes until about the 3300' level where the loose snow deepened, necessitating snowshoes. I met the earlier hiker who had just notched #574/576. Congratulations! He had made 2 large arrows showing how to turn left at the base of the cone. Continued w/ snowshoes (MSR Lightnings) to top. Used them on the return; trail became increasingly slushy, could have taken them off. Beautiful views in all directions; several hungry Gray Jays.
