It is impossible to discuss this topic in any meaningful way without addressing NH's tax structure. And that's impossible to do in any meaningful way without engaging in the sort of political discussion that VFTT bars.

I suggest now to Darren that he consider creating a separate VFTT forum for a discussion of the funding mechanism for SAR in NH and elsewhere. It's a very important topic for the VFTT members, and it needs action to fix it.
 
Moderator Note
As mentioned previously, this isn't a forum for ranting against problems in the political world, even if it impacts the hiking community. While it is possible to have a meaningful discussion about funding of various agencies, this thread was not going to be it based on the opening salvo. If someone wants to attempt another thread about this subject feel free to try again but consider that we are interested in light, not heat.
